Bio
Jessica Morey is a meditation teacher and contemplative coach with three decades of practice.
She began meditating as a teenager on retreats at the Insight Meditation Society and graduated from the IMS teacher training program in 2021. Jess brings a sense of playfulness and care to her teaching, with a focus on integrating meditation into our relationships and everyday life.
Her approach is grounded in psychological insight and skillful communication, making her teaching both accessible and practical. Before teaching full-time, Jess studied engineering and worked in clean energy finance. She later founded Inward Bound Mindfulness Education, a nonprofit offering in-depth mindfulness and compassion training to youth. More recently, she helped create the Contemplative Semester, a three-month immersion program for young adults.
Jess has no doubt in the technical brilliance of humanity to solve the challenges facing us – including climate change and systemic injustice. Where she believes we need some help is in our inner & interpersonal intelligence.
Background and Training
Jessica’s core practice is rooted in Insight Meditation, with primary training in the Burmese Vipassana tradition (Mahasi style). Since 2013, she has also studied intensively within Tibetan Vajrayana traditions, including John Makransky, Dr. Dan Brown, and Dr. Reggie Ray. She has been leading meditation retreats since 2009 and has served on a number of non-profit boards.
Jessica’s work is informed by extensive training in psychological and somatic modalities, including, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, Needs-Based Communication and Attachment-based healing, including Ideal Parent Figure work.
She has mentored extensively with Miki Kashtan, author, leader and “a practical visionary pursuing a world that works for all.”
She holds a BA in Environmental Engineering from Dartmouth College, along with master’s degrees in Sustainable Development and International Affairs. Her commitment to sustainability continues to influence her teaching, with a focus on the intersection of contemplative practice and the climate crisis.
Her published works range from the chapter “Ordinary Awakening” in Blue Jean Buddha to “Conflict Resolution of the Boruca Hydro-Energy Project: Renewable Energy Production in Costa Rica.” She is the author of “Finding My Way” in Mindful Magazine, a personal reflection on early meditation practice and healing from trauma, and “Bodhi Trees” in Shambhala Sun, which explores the potential of Buddhist practice to transform our relationship with the natural world.

The Buddhist path cultivates four powerful and transformative qualities: kindness, compassion, joy, and balance. These qualities are innate human capacities, and can be developed into steadfast dwelling places for the heart. Known as the brahmavihāras, or “sublime homes,” these states can serve as powerful supports both for deepening concentration and insight on the contemplative path and for responding to suffering in these troubled times. In this silent meditation retreat, we will explore techniques to develop each of the four sublime states, and to release the obstacles that hinder us from living a full life and responding meaningfully to the needs of our world. Our time together will include silent and guided sitting meditation, walking meditation, Dharma talks, instructions, Q&A and small group meetings with the teachers. This retreat is appropriate for both beginning and more experienced meditators.
This retreat is silent except for teacher-led Q&A, small groups, or other practice meetings.

Event Details
This program is co-sponsored by Dharma Gates and intended for participants ages 18-35.
Through cultivating beautiful qualities of the heart and mind, we can discover a place of safety, rest, and resiliency, right in the middle of everything. Love, compassion, joy, and equanimity are the skillful responses of a wise heart. Known as the brahmavihāras (divine abidings), they are qualities that keep us resourced and inspired to engage with our complex, aching world. During this program, we’ll explore and deepen into these four heart practices offered by the Buddha. Our sitting and walking schedule will move through each of them in sequence, beginning with the practice of mettā (loving-kindness), and moving through karuṇā (compassion), muditā (appreciative joy), and upekkhā (equanimity). Practice sessions will include relational inquiry, guided meditation, and silent practice.
Program Format: There will be dharma talks, guided meditation, silent meditation, and relational practices as well as walking and mindful movement.
