Event Details

Metta means friendship or lovingkindness in the ancient Buddhist Pali language. Metta meditation cultivates our natural capacity for an open and loving heart. Said to have been taught by the Buddha himself, we traditionally practice metta along with meditations that enrich compassion, joy in the happiness of others, and equanimity. These practices lead to the development of concentration, fearlessness, happiness, and a greater ability to love.

This silent retreat, open to both new and experienced meditators, will focus on the development of lovingkindness for concentration and as a support for insight. Teachers will offer a foundation of formal instructions in the classical method of metta meditation, and provide guidance in additional methods for the development of this powerful quality. Our time will include instructions for sitting and walking meditation practice, Q&A, talks about the teachings, and meetings with the teachers. An optional daily period of mindful movement will be offered by Lissa Edmond. All are welcome!

A limited number of Hemera Contemplative Fellowships will be available soon for this retreat. If you qualify for a Fellowship, you can register for the retreat now, and follow up with a Fellowship application once they are listed as available. We will then retroactively apply the grant to your registration and adjust your balance accordingly.
